Tourist hub to regulate hawking

Central Vietnamese city Danang is trying to regulate street hawkers and has told them to register for a permit.
The city Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said Friday they had to wear the permit, which would bear their name and photo, while selling on the streets, avoid streets closed to hawking, and not employ children and people with disabilities
.

Anyone violating these regulations would have their permit withdrawn, it said.

Many peddlers have registered with their local People’s Committees in the last several days though it has not been decided when the permit issue would start.

Danang, a coastal city well-known for its strict control of hawking, is an ancient land closely related with the Sa Huynh cultural traditions.

It is a major tourist attraction with its Cham Museum – which has many imposing, palaces, towers, temples, citadels, and ramparts, vestiges from the 1st to 13th centuries – Ba Na Tourist Resort, Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains), the Linh Ung Pagoda, Han River, and My An and Non Nuoc beaches.

It also has the closest airport to Hoi An town and My Son, the Chams’ ancient holy site.
